General information

2026 Camp Kindness Dates & Information

Camp Kindness is an educational camp designed for children ages 7-9 and 10-12 interested in learning about animal welfare and becoming future pet owners. During our camp sessions, children learn about proper pet care, pet safety, pet interaction and how these topics relate to the Sacramento community. Some examples of camp activities include shelter pet socialization, dog body language lesson, crafting, and educational presentations from different Sacramento SPCA departments and outside organizations. This camp involves a lot of hands-on activities, team collaboration, and crafts.

Teen Service Camps run from 8:30am-12:30pm each day.

Help Us Set up Your Kids for Success!

Ensuring the safety of both the humans and animals visiting the shelter is our number one priority during Camp Kindness. To provide the best experience for the kids and animals in our care, we ask that parents inform our Humane Education staff in advance about any special accommodations (physical, behavioral and sensory) your child needs to ensure positive human and animal interactions.

Assistant Camp Counselor Volunteers

Earn volunteer hours for school by assisting with Camp Kindness! Camp Counselors will work under the supervision of the Sacramento SPCA’s Humane Educator and will assist with all aspects of Camp Kindness. Duties will include daily set-up and clean-up, assisting campers with craft projects, distributing snacks and other materials, assisting with supervision of animal encounters, and taking out adoptable cats, kittens, and puppies for the campers to socialize. Counselors must be 13 years of age or older.

Counselor applications will open in spring 2027 for summer camp sessions.
